Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Minecraft skin?
Minecraft skins are 64x64* pixel image files in PNG format. These files tell the Minecraft software which and what color pixels to generate on the in-game avatar's model.
* Some skins may be rendered in 64x32 pixels, but we do not accept this format as it is outdated.
How do I make a Minecraft skin?
For absolute beginners, we recommend using a dedicated utility such as this browser based skin editor.
Tools like these will make it easy for you to design a skin in no time, allowing you to download the necessary file to create your custom toy as soon as you're finished.
Of course, you can always design your own Minecraft skin using a variety of image editing software (e.g. Photoshop or GIMP). Just be sure to follow the necessary guidelines, or your character (or your toy) may not render as intended.
More about creating skins, pixel boundaries, and proper formatting can be found here.
I already have a custom Minecraft skin, how can I upload it?
If you already have a skin attached to your Minecraft for Mac/PC account, or you would like to use a skin attached to another user's account, you can use a skin stealer to retrieve the skin by entering the associated username and downloading the file generated. Please note, Minecraft usernames are case sensitive. Also note, you will not be able to generate files from accounts other than those associated with Minecraft for Mac/PC.
How can I upload a skin from my Playstation/XBOX/Nintendo console?
Unfortunately, this is simply not possible. There is no file sharing which allows users to upload/download custom skins to or from console versions of Minecraft.
